Orcus Investment Advisors, LLC is organized under the laws of Delaware, is domiciled in Michigan and is registered with both the State of Michigan and the State of Florida as a Registered Investment Advisor. Orcus Investment Advisors, LLC was founded in 2023 by Robert M. Sparling, CFA.

Immediately prior to founding Orcus, Mr. Sparling spent nearly a decade as Chief Investment Officer (CIO) for Dow Inc., where he managed more than $30 billion of pension and captive reinsurance assets, served on various investment committees overseeing those assets and acted as a fiduciary for the company’s $10 billion defined contribution 401(k) savings plan.

From 2022 to 2024, Mr. Sparling served as Chair of the Committee on Investment of Employee Benefit Assets (CIEBA), an industry trade group comprised of the country’s leading CIOs. Responsible for more than $2.5 trillion of defined benefit and defined contribution plan assets, CIEBA members are focused on enhancing CIO fiduciary effectiveness and improving the overall soundness of the retirement savings system serving millions of employees and retirees.

Mr. Sparling’s accomplishments as CIO have been recognized in the investment community. He received CIO Magazine’s Industry Innovation Award in 2019 and was named to the Power 100 list of CIOs in 2024.

In the two decades preceding his appointment as CIO, Mr. Sparling served as the company’s Global Director of Financial Risk where he designed and implemented derivative strategies to manage currency, commodity and interest rate risk and was a fixed income portfolio manager for the company’s pension plan and insurance subsidiaries.

Mr. Sparling, currently and in the past, has served as chairperson of the investment committees for different charitable endowments, foundations and non-profit organizations with assets ranging from $65 million to $2 billion.

Mr. Sparling earned his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 2000, in 1995 graduated with an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University and earned his Bachelors of Science in Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1989.
